Petteri Päätalo (Padeveikko)

Hi You, flytyer and flyfisherman !

I am Petteri from Haukipudas, Finland. My home river, Kiiminkijoki runs only 2kms from my place and meets the Gulf of Botnia about 7kms after. There are few sea trouts which comes to the river at April and May. Those fishes are allways on my mind at winter time. Salmon comes at the end of May and will continue its rising up to the latest days of September. I do go fishing to Lappland every summer and especially to Kuusamo, the Land of Big Brown Trouts. It is one of my favorite places on earth. I do like all kind of fishing and I eat them with great lust of food.

In January 1991 I was walking on the Pall Mall, London and I saw the tackle shop called Farlow´s. I stepped in and then I realized that I was going fast to the world of flies and flyfishing. From Farlow´s I bought Judith Dunham´s great book "The Art of the Trout Fly". That was the book I enjoyed and got me for the flies, their characteristics and the whole art of tying. I had tied some flies at 1989-90 by my own but the opening for secrets of flytying came step by step with help of my friends, Juha and Jari.

If there are any disturbs in my daily life I just think my next tying session and some old receipts or maybe new mixtures and all bad feelings are gone. The materials are, of course, the one important inspiration for tying and allways in the tackle shops, physical or web ones I check the qualities of materials and do some buying. By mind-designing I will love the next flies I tie few hours before and many many flies are the results of some dreams.

Have a tight tyings !
