Aarne Karjala
Hello.
My name is Aarne Karjala and I am 31 years old fly Tyer from Lapua a small town in Finland. I am a carpenter, and I do windows for my living. I start fishing when i was small boy, I used all kinds of fishing tackles and methods, so I have been fishing as long as I can remember. But 1987 was the first year I went for the first time to fly tying school, after that I don't do anything else, only fly fishing and fly tying. Fly tying and fly fishing is my biggest passion. It gives my peace of mind and big pleasures.
Realistic fly tying is great interest to me and I tie realistic only to the pass the time and for my own delight. With realistic tying you can use own creativity and own development techniques. Ps. ”If you have enough spare time, use it for a realistic tying. Because only through spare time and relaxation will you be able to feed your own creativity.” I think, realistic fly tying I have my own unique tying style, because learning the realistic approach I didn't have a teacher. I taught it myself.
I have a few win prices in fly tying. I am Finnish Fly Tyer of the Year 2003 & 2005. Year 2004 I was the third at a same contest. Mustad Scandinavian Open 2004 and superrealistic imitations category, I get the fifth plase and year 2005 I win that same category, At then fly name was a "Battle". Hairwinged salmon flies, I win another prize. Fly name was a "Red Fox" . A win for Finnish Marryat fly tying competition Year 2004 , what last whole year.
Surely i tie also traditional fly paterns and I fish them most. I catch fish all khind flies. But if I heve to name my best traditional flys. I name a few the best of the best flys. My best wet fly for a Trout and Grayling Is Hassel, I have blind confidence in whift a Hassel. My best dry fly for a Trout and Grayling is Finnish national fly Nalle Puh. If I choose only one of My best fly for a Salmon, i have to choose some kind of Hornfellow.
I am captivated with salmon, it is my favorite fish to catch. Salmon do not eat when it get up to the river. Because of this It's like spiritual thing to me and it fascinates me every time I catch one.
Favorite fishing place is my home river, the Lapua River. But it is now dammed and the salmon do not get up there. There are brown trout, rainbow trout and graylings. Favorite Salomon fishing place is located in the north of Norway. A place called Neiden. Last summer I visited several times throughout the summer and autumn. And here Finland have a few salmon rivers too, one of the best is located in north Finland. Its name is Tenojoki. Ewery summer I visited at there too. Well..That is almost obsession.
I hope, I can inspired you to try realistic tying and you enjoy my patterns and techniques.
